This tool is used to identify different functional domains including vision, hearing, mobility, learning and communications in young children. It uses the social model of disability which recognises barriers that children with disabilities experience, rather than providing a medical diagnosis.
About this resource
To tackle the environmental, attitudinal and institutional barriers that children with disabilities face in accessing quality inclusive pre-primary education, Able Child and our Network Member ANDY in Kenya developed this Early Years Child Functioning Assessment Tool (EYCFA) to improve early screening of children with disabilities in Kenya.
The tool is based on the Washington Group Short Set (WGSS) questions, and is an adaptation of previous versions of the EYCFA which were developed for audiences in Uganda and Malawi, and can be adapted to other settings where needed.
