We are working Zimbabwe to reach more children and young people with disabilities, ensuring they are safe, thriving and heard.
Our New Member
We are working with our newest Network Member, Zimbabwe Parents of Handicapped Children Association (ZPHCA) to champion the rights and inclusion of children with disabilities in Zimbabwe. ZPHCA’s work focuses on three key strands with the aim of creating a supportive environment where children with disabilities can thrive.
In Zimbabwe, quality services for children with disabilities are hard to come by. 92% of caregivers therefore turn to traditional healers for help for their children, due to the stigma surrounding disability.
We are trying to change this.
Where we are starting
We are working with our newest Network Member, Zimbabwe Parents of Handicapped Children Association (ZPHCA) to champion the rights and inclusion of children with disabilities in Zimbabwe.
ZPHCA’s work focuses on three key strands with the aim of creating a supportive environment where children with disabilities can thrive. They actively lobby for legislative changes that ensure accessibility and equal opportunities for children with disabilities in education, healthcare, and housing. They provide a platform for parents to connect, share experiences, and access valuable information on various disabilities through parental support networks. And they advocate for the inclusion of children with disabilities into mainstream education, ensuring children receive the support and resources they need to thrive.
Together, we aim to break down barriers and create a brighter future for children with disabilities in Zimbabwe.
