Parent Support Group – Asina

Parent Support Group Meeting

Asina is just one of 110 children who has benefited from wheelchairs provided by Lira Umbrella Parents Support Organization (LUPSO).

When Asina was six months old her parents noticed that she wasn’t growing properly and was developing problems with her vision and hearing. Her father blamed her mother for giving birth to a disabled child and her mother felt obliged to hide Asina from their neighbours.

It was only when Asina’s mother joined a Parent Support Group and shared her experiences with others in a similar situation that she was able to receive support and explain to her husband what was wrong with their daughter. As a result of the advice they received, Asina’s parents took her to a referral hospital where she received physiotherapy.

The Parents Support Group has also provided a wheelchair to Asina who is now able to move around the village with her friends. She is one of 110 children who has benefited from wheelchairs provided by Lira Umbrella Parents Support Organization (LUPSO).

Parents of disabled children need support so that they can give their child the best start in life. To help more parents get the support they need, please click here to make a donation.
